I went to an all girls secondary school, so I can’t say how much encouragement the boys in the neighbouring school got.
I know they got better training for table quizzes though 🙂 We entered the leaving cert chemistry table quiz and came somewhere in the top ten (I remember we were the highest placed girls team that year). We didn’t get any afterschool coaching, but the lads in the neighbouring school were doing an hour after school twice a week. Our team were surprised by how competitive they were.
There’s a push to try to encourage girls more in to the sciences. They’re just as good as science as boys, if they’re given the same opportunities.
Silicon Republic have been running a series of articles on a Friday called #womeninvent, in a way to showcase female role models in science and tech in Ireland. Hopefully more female role models will encourage more girls to give science a go.

      Hi Roz,

No, I guess both of them get equal encouragement in schools. But yea I should say Girls get more encouragement in science in comparison to boys. As the world really need more women scientist. Government has started so many new projects to even encourage girls to take science as a career. So, all girls you will have more opportunities in the field of science 🙂
