  The Sun does not have enough mass to explode as a supernova (like Betelgeuse in Constellation Orion will someday soon). In about 5 – 7 billion years (that’s a lot of guessing) it’ll turn into a red giant and probably engulf Mercury, Venus and possibly including Earth! event is we’re not engulfed the heat that drives our climate and makes all out plants grow will be gone. Hopefully we’ll have colonies somewhere else by then if we’re around at all!

  I am glad that I will not be there to see death of sun 🙂 🙂 But let’s assume if it happens then as per researchers within a week, the average global surface temperature would drop below 0°F. In a year, it would dip to –100°. Oh my god ….
  The top layers of the oceans would freeze over, but in an apocalyptic irony, that ice would insulate the deep water below and prevent the oceans from freezing solid for hundreds of thousands of years. Millions of years after that, our planet would reach a stable –400°, the temperature at which the heat radiating from the planet’s core would equal the heat that the Earth radiates into space. Which means humans could live in submarines in the deepest and warmest parts of the ocean, but a more attractive option might be Iceland. The island nation already heats 87 percent of its homes using geothermal energy….
  The fact is sun is not just heating Earth, it also keeps the planet in orbit. If its mass suddenly disappeared ( impossible), the planet would fly off…
  All imagination 😀
